The Chocolate Museum ahead of you, the Rhine at your back, and the crackle of winter festivity in the air: the Cologne Harbour Christmas Market brings traditional hut charm, live evening music and twinkling lights to the promenade.
As the scent of fresh cocoa beans fills the tropical house and liquid chocolate is sampled at the famous fountain, the experience begins in the warm heart of the Chocolate Museum.
Step out of the museum's doors onto the promenade and you're greeted by the sparkling ensemble of the Harbour Christmas Market. The path leads past fragrant fire-tong punch, traditional crafts and the gentle glow of around 70 wooden huts right by the water – crowned by the view from the 48-metre-high Cologne Ferris wheel.
A few steps from the warm chocolate fountain lead straight into the festively lit market lanes by the water. The museum's warm cocoa world meets the fresh Rhine air and the scent of winter specialities outside.

The Harbour Christmas Market 2026 kicks off the new winter season as one of the first Christmas markets in Cologne, opening as early as 13 November 2026. Right on the banks of the Rhine, set against the backdrop of the Chocolate Museum, visitors can look forward to a redesigned market concept. The unique location combines culture and indulgence: a visit to the exhibition in the warm Chocolate Museum pairs perfectly with a stroll along the illuminated riverside promenade. From the scent of fresh cocoa creations inside the museum, visitors step seamlessly out to the warming stalls by the water.
For the 2026 season, the Christmas market by the Chocolate Museum has a new look: around 70 traditional wooden huts replace the previous pagoda tents, creating a cosy, classic market feel along the Rhine. A completely new lighting concept bathes the entire area in a warm glow that gently reflects on the waves of the Rhine.
Under the motto "Rhine Romance. A Sea of Lights. Christmas for Everyone." the market combines a festive atmosphere with offerings for the whole family:
A decisive advantage for planning your day: while many Cologne markets open later or close shortly before Christmas Eve, the Harbour Christmas Market 2026 offers the longest running time on the Rhine.
